Transitions XTRActive: Visionet’s reference for intense light

At Visionet, online optician, we offer Transitions XTRActive photochromic lenses in three versions: Classic, Polarized and Mirror Style. They are the only Transitions that darken in the car (up to ~40%). In direct sun they reach about 85% (almost as dark as sunglasses) with a ~10% residual tint indoors. They react to UV and also to strong visible light: near a sunny bay window, a slight activation can occur.

Note: In the car, XTRActive reaches about 40%. This greatly reduces glare, but may not fully replace dedicated sunglasses in very strong sun. Indoor residual tint is around 10%.

1 Transitions XTRActive Classic

The Classic version is the most versatile: outdoor activation up to ~85%, in-car darkening up to ~40%, and comfortable indoors (discreet residual tint). Anti-reflective coating available on both sides. Colors: grey, brown, graphite-green.

2 Transitions XTRActive Polarized

Polarized (grey only) strongly reduces stray reflections (wet roads, water, snow) and improves contrast. Ideal for driving and outdoor activities. Anti-reflective on both sides available.

3 Transitions XTRActive Mirror Style

Mirror Style applies a permanent flash mirror coating: the mirror effect remains indoors as well. It’s a flash mirror (eyes often still visible) but can create noticeable reflections during extended screen use. Great for style and outdoor use. Anti-reflective on the inner side only.

4 Good to know: use & limits

In the car: XTRActive darkens (up to ~40%). Transitions GEN S do not darken in the car.
Maximum outdoors: up to ~85% in direct sun, close to sunglasses (GEN S gets slightly less dark at peak).
Indoors: residual tint around 10% — never fully clear.
Near bay windows: slight activation may occur (response to strong visible light), more noticeable with XTRActive.
Anti-reflective: Classic & Polarized → both sides possible; Mirror Style → inner side only.

6 Prescription & options

All XTRActive versions are available with prescription or without (plano). You can turn any eyeglass frame or sunglasses into XTRActive — with or without prescription.

How do I buy XTRActive lenses?

1) Choose a frame on Visionet — over 8,000 models at the best price.
2) On the product page of your chosen frame, click “add lenses” (or “change lenses” for sunglasses).
3) In the configurator, select the photochromic lens family, then pick Transitions XTRActive (Classic, Polarized, or Mirror Style).

Do XTRActive replace dedicated driving sunglasses?

They darken in the car (up to ~40%), which reduces glare. In very strong sun, dedicated sunglasses can still be preferable.

Why do my lenses darken near a window?

XTRActive reacts to UV and strong visible light; near a sunny bay window, slight activation can occur.

Is Mirror Style comfortable for screen work?

The flash mirror is permanent and can create noticeable reflections during prolonged use (computer/TV). We recommend it mainly for style and outdoor wear.
