A short guide to oval glasses

Oval glasses are known to have rounded frames that are wider than they are tall. This type of goggles, which appeared only in the late 18th century, more than five centuries after the round glasses, was then offered for the lightening of the round versions. Whether it's a pair of glasses or sunglasses, with oval glasses, the shape of a face can be perfectly reduced. They are clean and discreet and can highlight facial features. Are these a good choice for you?

Choose oval glasses according to your face shape

To achieve a harmonious and aesthetic result, it is recommended to choose a pair of glasses whose frame shape is opposite to that of your face. There are round, oval, square, rectangular, triangular or diamond shaped faces. To find out your shape, you can use a lipstick or a pencil to draw the outline of your face on a mirror. If you are a woman, you can simply pull your hair backwards: the dominant shape of your face will then be visible to you. Of course, the above rule is not absolute, and the oval glasses are not systematic for angular faces. Find out here if you can wear the glasses without fear of an unfortunate result:

Do you have a square face?

The square faces have a broad forehead and a strong jaw, with latitude and longitude being approximately equal. They are great for wearing oval glasses that soften them. We recommend that you choose glasses that are narrower than your face and have a thin and light frame.

Do you have a rectangular face?

A rectangular face is oblong, which is longer than wide. The oval glasses are very suitable for these types of faces: they bring a certain balance by widening them. This requires that they be relatively large, but without a thick frame if your face is thin.

Do you have a diamond shaped face?

The diamond-shaped face with large cheekbones, narrow forehead and narrow chin is not widespread. The oval glasses are perfect for these types of faces. If you select them, the distance between your temples will be reduced. Make sure you choose a frame that is larger than your cheekbones to reduce the emphasis.

Do you have a triangular face?

Her face is triangular when she has a broad forehead and a thin, pointed chin. The oval glasses are perfect for you. If you select them, they will focus your attention on the upper part of your face. Opt for a frame with rounded top edges.

Do you have a round face?

The width and length of a round face are the same and there are no angles. Do not choose oval glasses for your face if you want to take the curves and emphasize them.

Do you have an oval face?

The oval face is known to fit perfectly with all eyeglass shapes. It is without angles, with balanced proportions. The oval glasses are suitable for you and bring you a youthful touch

Why oval glasses and which oval glasses?

Do you want to soften the angles of your square, rectangular or triangular face? Why should you turn to oval instead of round glasses? You should know that round glasses are not necessarily easy to accept. They are a bit original and you may not want to be noticed. Oval glasses, however, are much more discreet.

For example, if you choose a model whose oval frame approaches the rectangle and is equipped with thin temples, you will get a retro modal effect and give an impression of energy and vitality. The determinedly trendy oval butterfly glasses give women a beautiful touch of femininity, fantasy and charm.

What other elements should be considered for a proper choice?

When choosing your oval glasses, do not just look for the shape of your face. For example, it is very important that you are interested in your eyebrows. Are they long and straight? In this case you should not choose oval glasses. The line of the frame of your glasses must follow the line of your eyebrows to achieve the most harmonious effect possible. In addition, your eyebrows are an important part of your face: it is extremely important that the frame does not obscure them. You should also not be visible through the glasses of your glasses. The top of the frame should be just below the eyebrow line.

Your head is quite wide? Do not hesitate to choose a pretty big pair of glasses. If your head is relatively small, choose a pair of glasses in the same way.

Also, when trying on your glasses, make sure that your eyes are in the centre of the glasses and not in contact with your eyelashes.

What colour?

You can choose the colour of your glasses based on the colour of your hair or eyes or your skin colour. If your forehead is quite wide, avoid black glasses or too flashy glasses if you do not want to emphasize your forehead.

Also note that the colour of the part of the glasses that sits on the nose (the bridge) affects the distance between your eyes or the size of your nose. A bright colour makes the eyes appear farther away than they are and the nose longer; and a dark colour has the opposite effect.
